RESTORATIVE YOGA

Restorative Yoga is a receptive practice, rather than an active practice.

In restorative Yoga the poses are held from ten to twenty minutes, the body is held in shapes while being supported by bolsters, pillows, blankets and blocks. the shapes emulate the forms of some more active poses such as back bend or forward bend, twists or inversions.

When you are supported in the pose it may open the lungs, release tension in the lower back, shoulders, neck upper back, hips knees, restorative yoga can aid in issues relating to menopause, pms, insomnia, headaches, tension held in the mind and body.

Restorative yoga is beneficial for recovery from injury, illness, depletion of energy both physical and mental and emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, grief and sadness

When we practice Restorative Yoga we are working with the nervous system to enable the parasympathetic nervous system - rest, digest, restore, to come to the fore and for the sympathetic part of the nervous system - fight, flight, freeze to fall back, this creates a space for the body

to return to homeostasis, balance in all systems, and it is within this space that healing on all levels begins to take place.

Restorative yoga can assist in balancing most issues effecting the body and mind.
